Eastern European smugglers shopping nuclear material to ISIS, other terror groups

Oct. 7, 2015 - Four times during the past five years the FBI has stopped gangs with Russian connections from selling radioactive material to Middle Eastern extremists. Matthew Bunn, a Harvard professor who is an expert on security of Russia's nuclear arsenal, said,

"In the age of the Islamic State, it's especially terrifying to have real smugglers of nuclear bomb material apparently making connections with real buyers."

The Russian Defense Ministry announced the surprise deployment of Navy cruiser, the Moskva, armed with 64 advanced anti-aircraft missiles S-300 ship-to-air missiles opposite the Syrian coastal town of Latakia.

The effect of this move will be to force a "no fly" area over Lebanon andSyria. American, Turkish, British, Israeli and Jordanian air forces will at least need to coordinate their actions with Russia or risk being shot down.

CIA-backed rebels, civilians reportedly targeted by Russian airstrikes in Syria

Oct. 10, 2015 - US officials claim that Russia's first airstrikes were in the areas where anti-Assad rebels--funded and trained by the CIA-- were located.

None of the four areas targeted by Russian planes Wednesday contained ISIS fighters and called Moscow's claim that it was helping the U.S.-led coalition defeat the terror group "baseless."

Russian diplomats sent an official demarche ordering U.S. planes out of Syria, adding that Russian fighter jets were now flying over Syrian territory. U.S. military sources told Fox News that U.S. planes would not comply with the Russian demand.

Russia's demand came just moments after Russian lawmakers formally approved a request from Putin to authorize the use of troops in Syria.

With Russia sending troops and weapons to bolster embattled President Bashar al-Assad, the deteriorating situation in Syria took center stage on the first day of the annual UN General Assembly.

Dealing with Syria's war is increasingly difficult. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in the nation's uprising against the Assad government. ISIS has taken advantage of the chaos to try to build a new Islamic caliphate. the US is against Assad, but won't attack him. Iran and Russia back him and have moved into the country with force to stabilize his government. Explosions have spread into Israel's northern territory and Israel has responded with air strikes. Obama and Putin discuss the matter at the UN, but disagree about Assad.

Apr. 1, 2015 - Palestinian officials say that Islamic State (IS) militants have taken control of large parts of the Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus, Syria.

The UN says about 18,000 Palestinian refugees are inside the camp.
