Lighthouses of Prayer are springing up everywhere! This is the unifying strategy of churches and major evangelistic organizations as we prepare for the new millennium.

They're not spooked by Halloween
- Oct. 29, 1999 - Tom Pelton of Light the Night (sponsored by March for Jesus) encourages Christians to illuminate their homes and yards on Halloween and use the opportunity to share the Gospel. The event is seen as part of the Lighthouses movement, and uses the same name as the New Millennium Eve event promoted by Promise Keepers.

National broadcast invites Christians to let their light shine
- Oct. 15, 1999 - A two hour telecast from Madison Square Garden in New York will recruit volunteers to establish Lighthouses of Prayer, a grass-roots movement endorsed by key evangelical organizations and denominations.
- ...Lighthouses of Prayer are small groups of everyday people doing
the work of the church, leaders say. A Lighthouse is a family or small
number of Christians who meet regularly in a workplace, school, retirement
community, or other location to pray that God will bless a few, selected
non-Christians they know or would like to get to know. An example of a
Lighthouse is a family that prays regularly for a few other families on their
street.

- A nation-wide television broadcast from New York's Madison Square Garden will feature the national launch of the Lighthouse Movement.
‘Pray, care, share’ strategy reaches neighbors
- July 27, 1999 - Dr. Paul Cedar of Mission America explains:
- "Lighthouses" are growing in popularity as a means of evangelizing
neighbors... A Lighthouse is a Christian home in which members
pray regularly for each person in the neighborhood, often creating
opportunities for the praying families to share their faith with neighbors.
Lighthouses also can be established in a church, business, school group, or other place.
- The strategy is "pray, care, share." Participants begin praying for a few
neighbors, and show them acts of kindness, hospitality, and friendliness. As
friendships develop, they look for opportunities to talk about their faith,
distribute the JESUS Video or Gospel literature, or invite them to attend
church.
The movement is growing rapidly. At present,
more than 57 networks, 75 denominations, and 300 ministries have joined."
