Florida recount study: Bush still wins
Nov. 12, 2001 - After conducting a six-month study of last year's election, The National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago concluded that George W. Bush would still have won the election if the Supreme Court had allowed a complete recount.
Bush tells America, 'Let's roll'
Nov. 9, 2001 - Using the heroic words of Todd Beamer, who helped keep the fourth plane from accomplishing it's deadly purpose on September 11, President Bush continued to encourage the nation.
"We will no doubt face new challenges. But we have our marching orders. My fellow Americans, let's roll," he told a cheering audience.
The president laid out plans for the new Department of Homeland Security. He urged Americans to band together and win the war against terrorism.

Clinton calls terror a U.S. debt to past

Nov. 8, 2001 - Former President Clinton, speaking at Georgetown University, said that the September 11 attacks are a consequence of our country's past failures, including slavery and killing Indians. He also reminded the students of the failures of Christianity itself in the past.
Mr. Clinton said the international terrorism that has only just reached the United States dates back thousands of years. "In the first Crusade, when the Christian soldiers took Jerusalem, they first burned a synagogue with 300 Jews in it and proceeded to kill every woman and child who was a Muslim on the Temple Mount. I can tell you that story is still being told today in the Middle East and we are still paying for it."

President Climbs in European Esteem
June 18, 2001 - While European leaders could not agree with everything President Bush said during his first official visit to Europe, it is generally admitted that he gained international respect in his coherent, nonconfrontational explanations of American policy.
In five days, during a trip that spanned NATO and EU summit meetings in Brussels and Gothenburg and a meeting Saturday in Slovenia with President Vladimir Putin of Russia, Mr. Bush buried for now the European media-cariacature of him as a Texas oaf.

Analysis suggests vote recount favored Bush
Feb. 26, 2001 - The Miami Herald reports that George W. Bush would likely have won the presidency even if a recount had been allowed in Miami-Dade county. Analysis indicates that Gore would have only gained 49 votes, which would have still left him 140 votes short.

No Begging Pardon Here
Feb. 22, 2001 - by Jack Kinsella
Just as we were ready to try to forget the Clinton scandals, Hillary's lawyer brother, Hugh Rodham, cashed a check for $400,000 sent him by two of the men the president pardoned. One was a convicted cocaine smuggler, the other a man currently under investigation for the same tax fraud practices that made him a candidate for a pardon in the first place. The Clintons were "shocked," and demanded that Hugh send the money back.

The President’s Source of Faith
Feb. 12, 2001 - During the campaign, President George W. Bush was very candid about his faith in Jesus Christ. Those who know him well say that he is just as committed to Christ as he claims to be. He is especially concerned about the plight of the poor, and is eager to practice "compassionate conservatism."
A devoted Bible reader, Bush pages his way through the Old and New Testament with the help of a One-Year Bible and has been a regular church attendee since his daughters’ baptism in 1981.
Not that his commitment to his evangelical faith always has stood on solid ground. He acknowledges that before his 40th birthday — and his decision to quit drinking and rededicate his life to Christ — he often drank too much. He once commented, “When I was young and irresponsible, I sometimes behaved young and irresponsibly.”

Rich pardon, gifts dog Clinton
Feb. 11, 2001 - Former President Clinton’s faces tough questions about the pardon of fugitive financier, Marc Rich. He could be called before Congress to explain his actions. If political contributions from Rich's ex-wife can be traced to him, they would be considered illegal because Rich has renounced his U.S. citizenship.
On a Sunday TV show, Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania said that impeachment of Bill Clinton is a possibility, even though he is no longer in office.
“A president may be impeached for the emoluments of office, such as the substantial sums being spent on the library, such as the bodyguards, such as his pension,” Specter said on “Fox News Sunday.”
Another unresolved issue is the former President's decision to take White House gifts with him to New York.

Jan. 29, 2001 - President Bush is taking steps to establish a White House office that would distribute billions of dollars to religious groups and charities over the next 10 years.

To build support, Bush will meet throughout the week with leaders of spiritual and charitable groups and he planned to attend the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday.

Clintons' Record Gift Take Raises Ethics Questions
Jan. 26, 2001 - The Clintons set a new record for personal gifts accepted ($190,027),. Some of them have questionable connections. For instance, Denise Rich, the ex-wife of a fugitive living in Europe, and wanted on more than 50 counts by several U.S. law enforcement agencies, gave the Clintons two coffee tables and two chairs worth $7,375. President Clinton pardoned the man on his last day as president.
The pardon infuriated U.S. attorneys working on the case, who said Clinton made the decision without even consulting them. In an interview today on ABC's Good Morning America, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said the chain of events raised disturbing questions.
"The wife of a fugitive from justice can give a million dollars, and by the way $7,000 in furniture to the Clintons, avoiding technically the gift ban for United States senators because Mrs. Clinton wasn't sworn in yet, and all of a sudden the guy gets a pardon," McCain said. "No one can understand why ... a fugitive from justice would get a pardon."

Bush tells staff integrity, ethics get top priority
Jan 21, 2000 - President Bush ordered his staff to stay within the bounds of what is legal and ethical, and avoid even the appearance of wrong-doing.
"No one in the White House should be afraid to confront the people they work for, for ethical concerns. And no one should hesitate to confront me, as well. We're all accountable to one another. And above all, we're all accountable to the law and to the American people," he said.

The key for the letter "W" was missing on over 40 keyboards, phone lines were cut, obscene messages were left on voice mail, pornographic pictures were interspersed in the computer paper, so that they would be revealed only as items were run off the computer, desks were turned upside down, trash was deliberately left.
