Putin expels 755 diplomats in response to US sanctions
July 30, 2017 - The U.S. has imposed sanctions on Russia in retaliation both for Russia's takeover of Crimea in 2014 and
Russian interference in the U.S. 2016 presidential election. Vladimir Putin called it "unprovoked step towards worsening bilateral relations,"
and responded by expelling 755 U.S.diplomats from Russia.

Report: Russia Wants to Build World's Biggest Aircraft Carrier
Apr. 25, 2017 - Because of escalating world tensions, Russia wants to build the biggest aircraft carrier in the world.
The carrier, coined the "Shtorm," is projected to be similar in size to the U.S. Gerald R. Ford supercarrier with a take-off deck
the equivalent of three football fields with room for up to 100 fighters and bombers. The cost is expected to be between $6.15 and $17.5 billion.
The cost for the massive project would be between $6.15 and $17.5 billion.

Apr. 7, 2017 - In the wake of Syria's chemical attack, and President Trump's retaliation against the Syrian airbase, Russian
officials have expressed their anger against the U.S.
"We strongly condemn the illegitimate actions by the U.S. The consequences of this for regional and international stability
could be extremely serious,” Russia's deputy U.N. envoy, Vladimir Safronkov, told a meeting of the U.N. Security Council on Friday.
Meanwhile, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev characterized the U.S. strikes as one step away from clashing with Russia's military.

How Russia Is Turning Syria into a Major Naval Base for Nuclear Warships (and Israel Is Worried)
Mar. 18, 2017 - Russia and Syiria have entered into a 49-year agreement to allow Russia to have a major naval outpost at Tartus.
The specification allowing nuclear-powered warships means that Russia wants to be able to base in Syria large surface
ships, namely Kirov-class nuclear-powered battle cruisers, as well as nuclear submarines.

Putin's Russia in biggest Arctic military push since Soviet fall
Jan. 31, 2017 - In a push to dominate the Arctic regions, Russia is building new nuclear icebreakers.
It is thought that the Arctic holds more hydrocarbon reserves than Saudi Arabia.
Russia's build-up is the biggest since the 1991 Soviet fall and will, in some areas, give Moscow more military capabilities than the Soviet Union once had.
