Strong and Major Quake Watch
Is there really an increase in seismic activity? From some perspectives it certainly seems that there
is, but scientists remind us that this could also be due to the increased effectiveness in measuring and reporting
events. In any case, there is no doubt that this period of time qualifies as a fulfillment of the prophecy that
"there will be earthquakes!"

At least 97 dead after magnitude-6.5 earthquake rocks Indonesia
Dec. 7, 2016 - A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia's Aceh province early today.
At least 97 died while four people were pulled from the rubble alive... 273 people were injured, about a quarter of them seriously.

Tsunami advisories lifted after Japan earthquake
Nov. 22, 2016 - A strong earthquake and tsunami struck Japan near Fukishima, and was considered an aftershock of the devastating 9.0 quake in 2011.
The magnitude 7.4 earthquake occurred at 5:59 a.m., local time, [yesterday] off the coast of Fukushima prefecture. No deaths or major damage were reported,
but transportation was disrupted and residents of low-lying areas were advised to evacuate.

New Zealand earthquake: Tsunami follows powerful tremor
Nov. 13, 2016 - A magnitude 7.8 quake struck just after midnight about 59 miles from Christchurch, New Zealand. It was followed by an 8-foot high tsunami.
The highest waves, which could be as tall as 5m [16-feet] are expected between Malborough, the north-eastern tip of the South Island,
and Banks Peninsula, just south of Christchurch.

Italy rocked by strongest earthquake to strike the country in 36 years
Oct. 30, 2016 - A magnitude 6.6 earthquake rocked areas of southern Italy that were affected by the quake in August that left thousands homeless.
The ancient city of Norcia, the birthplace of St. Benedict,, was the closest city to the epicenter.
The earthquake was believed to be the strongest to strike the country since 1980. A 6.9-magnitude quake in southern Campania that year
killed some 3,000 people and caused extensive damage.

Risk of big earthquake on San Andreas fault rises after quake swarm at Salton Sea
Oct. 1, 2016 - Starting last Monday, more than 200 earthquakes occured at the southern end of the San Andreas fault in 24 hours. Thre of them measured above
magnitude 4.0. Thomas H. Jordan, director of the Southern California Earthquake Center said that the quake swarm was alarming:
“Any time there is significant seismic activity in the vicinity of the San Andreas fault, we seismologists get nervous, because we recognize that the probability
of having a large earthquake goes up.”

At least 159 reported dead after strong earthquake rocks central Italy
Aug. 24, 2016 - A magnitude 6.2 earthquake has totally devastated the Italian town of Amatrice, and was felt strongly in Rome.
At least 37 people were killed in hard-hit towns where rescue crews raced to dig survivors out of the rubble, but the toll was
likely to rise as crews reached homes in more remote hamlets.

Search continues for survivors after biggest Japan quake since 2011
Apr. 15, 2016 - A magnitude 6.2 quake struck at 21:26 on Thursday (12:26 GMT), near Kumamoto city, on the Japanese island of Kyushu.
No tsunami warning was issued.

Aftershocks rock Indonesia after massive quake, calls for calm
Mar. 2, 2016 - a massive 7.8 undersea quake In the Indian Ocean sparked fears of a region-wide disaster similar to the 2004 tsunami.
Within two hours of the quake striking the tsunami warnings were cancelled. USGS said the epicentre was 808 km (502 miles) southwest of Padang.
