Why would God send revival in the last days? In the Bible, He always gave believers an opportunity to repent, and he often allowed the worst of pagans the opportunity to repent as well (eg. Nineveh).

Is New York City on the Brink of a Great Awakening?

Nov. 19, 2013 - Some cultural experts believe the Big Apple is on the brink of another ‘Great Awakening.’ Since the 911 attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 there has been a surge of evangelicalism. The number of churches has grown significantly in a city where they were not many churches before.

The roots of spiritual renewal go back to David Wilkerson's ministry to gang members in the '60's and the founding of Teen Challenge. In 1969 it received another nudge with the coming of the Cymbalas to the Brooklyn Tabernacle. About that same time B.J. and Sheila Weber founded New York Fellowship to encourage like-minded businessmen to come together for encouragement and growth. That group has now extended its reach into the city, impacting New York City’s professional sports teams and conducting a ministry to the homeless and inner city youth.

Just before the year 2000 The King's College began in a portion of the Empire State Building, and has now relocated to the city's financial district. It has attracted hundreds of young people, who, in turn, are flooding the churches in the Big Apple. There are now many churches in New York making a powerful impact with the Gospel message.

In 2000 Eric Metaxis founded Socrates In the City, a monthly forum that facilitates discussion around “the bigger questions in life” such as the existence of evil, the implications of science in faith, and the role of suffering.

Gregory Thornbury, president of The King’s College—the only free-standing Christian institution of higher learning in New York City—compares this rise in Christianity to the great Wall Street revival of 1857.

Record number want 'bathroom bill' killed

Nov. 13, 2013 -
More than 620,000 residents of California have signed petitions demanding that a “bathroom bill” adopted by the state legislature that allows students to choose which gender they represent be killed. And they did it in just 80 days.
State officials will now check the names. Only 500,000 are needed to put the issue on the ballot for the 2014 election. A team of attorneys from the Pacific Justice Institute will challenge any disqualified signatures they believe are valid.
Source: WND
Editor's Note: We are posting this on both "Apostasy" and "Revival" pages. It is a sign of an apostate culture that such a bill would have been passed, but a sign of revival that churches and other concerned organizations were able to generate this response in such a short time. Hopefully, if it is passed during the elections, the courts won't discredit the democratic process by nullifying it like they did with Prop. 8.

Rev. Billy Graham Prepares 'Perhaps … My Last Message'

Oct. 6, 2013 - As Billy Graham approaches his 95th birthday he prepares for a national video event that he says may be his last message to the nation and the world.

Graham's faith in the soon return of Christ is still strong. When asked about the Bible's prediction of the Battle of Armageddon he said, it is not wise to “speculate” about dates of future events. He told interviewers that there

“will be signs pointing toward the return of the Lord. . . I believe all of these signs are evident today,” Graham wrote, adding that “the return of Christ is near."

Chuck Smith, 86, Dies After Cancer Battle

Oct. 3, 2013 - Chuck Smith, the founder of the Calvary Chapel movement, died today at the age of 86 after a battle with lung cancer. Some 1600 Calvary Chapels in the U.S. and around the world were impacted by his amazing Bible-based teaching since he began his ministry at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa (California) in 1965.
Smith was known for expository preaching as he worked his way through the entire Bible, unpacking texts from Genesis through Revelation and offering commentary along the way.
His ministry reached the hippies of the '60's and multitudes of others from the baby boom generation. He launched Maranatha! Music, a record label that promoted the music of the "Jesus People."

RonGraff.jpg - 6668 Bytes TRIBUTE TO CHUCK SMITH

Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His saints.– Psalm 116:15

Chuck Smith, one of the greatest luminaries of our times, left us this morning to dwell in the presence of Jesus, “The Light of the World.” We will miss him more than words can express, but the world does not need to grow dark now that he is gone. Instead, it should become brighter than ever as the tens of thousands of pastors and teachers, who considered him a spiritual father (myself included), allow their own light to increase.

May his mantle fall on us like Elijah’s did on Elisha (1 Kings 19:15-21). May we walk in humble dependence on the Lord’s power and direction like he did. May we love the Lord and love people the way he did. May we teach the whole counsel of God’s Word the way he did. May we be faithful to the Lord until the very end of this short life the way he was.

Like the greatest reformers, and the most effective evangelists of the past, Chuck Smith will never be forgotten. His voice will surely continue to fill the airwaves and his influence will fill our hearts until Jesus comes. Maranatha!

Billy Graham: Now is time for 'fresh awakening'

Sept. 23, 2013 - Billy Graham believes that the signs of the “end of the age” that Jesus Christ spoke of are now converging for the first time in 2,000 years. In hopes of a “fresh spiritual awakening in America,” he will be delivering what could be his final message to the world during the “My Hope America with Billy Graham” evangelistic outreach on Nov. 7, his 95th birthday.
The sermon will be broadcast worldwide via satellite and the Internet. More information can be found by calling 1-877-MY-HOPE, or 1-877-769-4673.
This article by Troy Anderson is the third in a series of seven articles about major evangelists who are seeing signs of a much-needed revival. He cites a new book by Gallup Editor-in-Chief Frank Newport titled “God Is Alive and Well: The Future of Religion in America.” Newport predicts that the baby-boomer generation will become more religious as they reach their golden years.

Anderson also mentions a recent OmniPoll conducted by the Barna Group. It found that four in 10 Americans, and 77 percent of evangelical Christians, believe the “world is now living in the biblical end times.”

94-year-old Billy Graham's warning for America
Billy Graham and many other powerful evangelists are praying that God will send what he describes as an end-times “great spiritual awakening.”
Graham compared America to the ancient city of Nineveh, the lone superpower of its time. When the prophet Jonah finally traveled to Nineveh and proclaimed God’s warning, the people repented and escaped judgment.
Franklin Graham, Reinhard Bonnke, Greg Laurie, Chuck Smith, and other evangelists have recently expressed similar desires for a revival.

Greg Laurie on Why Bible Prophecy Makes No Mention of America

July 15, 2013 - Evangelist Greg Laurie explains that The United States is not mentioned as a key player during the end times. This might be true for a number of reasons. One possibility is that we might be involved in a nuclear war before the Tribulation. Another is moral collapse of the nation causing us no no longer be a superpower. Proverbs 14:34, says,
"Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people."
Laurie reminds us to pray for revival. However, even if we do experience another spiritual awakening, the Rapture of the Church will remove many millions of Christians, which itself would affect the country greatly.

On the National Day of Prayer, time for a revival

May 2, 2013 - Greg Laurie, founder of the Harvest Crusades is honorary chairman of the task force for the National Day of Prayer. He warns that America has strayed from its Christian principles and is in need of a revival. He explained that we can not manufacture a revival, but God might cause one to take place if we repent and pray. He used the story of Jonah and the evil city of Nineveh. God sent Jonah to offer them one last chance. He wrote,
The Ninevites turned to the Lord en masse and repented of their sin and he spared them. If God could bring a revival to Nineveh, surely he can do the same for America.

From 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, to President Lincoln’s proclamation of a day of “humiliation, fasting and prayer” in 1863, national prayer has been a rich part of American history.
President Truman established a National Day of Prayer in 1952 and President Reagan set its annual observance on the first Thursday in May.

He feels that this strong spiritual movement indicates that we are most likely living during the end times. He said he was convinced that...
...we are living in the end of days, a time when every human being on earth will have the chance to say 'yes, I accept' or 'no, I reject' this Gospel message of Jesus. But how will they know unless someone tells them?"

Review: 'The Bible' – This Time, Hollywood Got It Right

Mar. 1, 2013 - Reviewer Geoff Tunnicliffe didn't have high hopes for the new mini-series about the Bible, but he is very pleasantly surprised. Peter has just landed a bountiful load of fish from waters that he deemed unfishable. He looks at Jesus and asks him: "What are we going to do?" And Jesus replies: "We're going to change the World!"

Richard Dawkins Loses Debate Against Former Anglican Head Rowan Williams

Feb. 3, 2013 -
The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, defeated prominent atheist professor, Richard Dawkins ... as a vote taken at the conclusion of the debate ruled that religion does have a place in the 21st century.
An audience of about 800 people at the University of Cambridge voted 324 to 136 that William's case was more reasonable than Dawkin's views.

Williams argued that Christianity promoted community building, compassion, friendship and inclusion. He said that the convention of human rights would not be what it is without the history of philosophical, religious debate.

Dawkins said his main concern was simply whether religion was true. He considers it a phony substitute for an explanation, which seems to answer the question until you examine it and realize that it does no such thing. In his view, these false explanations hinder the process of discovering real explanations.

'Harbinger' author pleads for return to God

Jan. 23, 2013 - Addressing the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC on Inauguration Day, Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, author of “The Harbinger,” warned the gathering that the U.S. has chosen a path that takes the nation away from God, and he pleaded with its leaders to return.
“What we once knew to be immoral, we celebrate,” he said. “What we once knew to be right, we war against...A thousand apostate ministers swearing on a thousand Bibles will not change one jot or tittle of the word of God.”
Later in the day Cahn commented on the President's inaugural speech - the first one ever to call for the advancement of "gay" rights.

He said there was "an explosion of prayer and worship" after his message, and that he is praying it will be the beginning of an awakening.

A Prayer for the President and a Nation

Jan. 21, 2012 - Rev. Dr. Luis León, pastor of St. John's Church across from the White House will do double duty today: hosting President Obama for a prayer service before the inauguration, and giving the benediction at the inauguration ceremony. He told ABC news that he will be praying for restored unity as a nation.
“We don’t trust each other. We’ve forgotten that we have more that binds us together than separates us. My prayer is that we capture that sense of being one nation.”
St. John’s has often be the host of the inaugural prayer service since Franklin Roosevelt started the tradition. Even before that time it was often visited by presidents. There is a special pew in the back where Abraham Lincoln sat when he attended. A plaque there says Lincoln always came alone and left before the service ended to walk back to the White House.

Billy Graham's 'My Hope' National Campaign to Culminate With Evangelist's 95th Birthday

Jan. 13, 2013 - This year will see the escalation and culmination of a great evangelistic effort called "My Hope with Billy Graham." Greg Laurie on Things to Do Before Jesus Returns

Jan. 5, 2012 - Greg Laurie reminded his congregation that the return of Christ is mentioned no less than 318 times in the 260 chapters in the New Testament. It doesn't tell us the exact time for His return because we should always be ready.
What if we knew somehow that Jesus Christ will be back for us at 3 p.m. tomorrow? The pastor asked. "I'm sure we'd all be saints at 2:45 … We'll be wearing our Sunday morning smiles and our come-quickly-Jesus attitude."

Laurie acknowledged that some might doubt Jesus' promise since He has not come yet, but they should read 2 Peter 3:9...

"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
He said that he had hoped Jesus would return in the '70's, but he is glad He didn't because many in his audience had accepted Christ since that time.

He encouraged his flock to be ready to go at any time, believing in Christ, living godly lives, and avoiding sinful behavior.
