Signs of the Times

Famines

PROPHETIC SIGNIFICANCE:
A lack of food is the direct result of two prominent End-Times predictions: Wars and Natural Disasters. Famine is listed by Jesus as a sign of the times in the period leading up to the Tribulation. He said, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places." -Matthew 24:7

According to the Book of Revelation famine will be intense after the great war of the second seal during the Tribulation. John wrote, "When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “Two pounds of wheat for a day’s wages, and six pounds of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!" - Revelation 6:5-6

Pope Francis: 'Scandalous' That Millions Are still Starving; Economic Crisis No Excuse

Jun. 21, 2013 - Speaking at the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization Conference, Pope Francis said, "It is a well-known fact that current levels of production are sufficient, yet millions of people are still suffering and dying of starvation. This is truly scandalous." He referred to the biblical parable of the Good Samaritan.
According to world hunger statistics, 33 percent of the earth's population is considered to be starving. Close to 1.5 million children die from hunger every year, and as many as 98 percent of people who live in developing countries do not have enough to eat.
