Strong and Major Quake Watch
Is there really an increase in seismic activity? From some perspectives it certainly seems that there
is, but scientists remind us that this could also be due to the increased effectiveness in measuring and reporting
events. In any case, there is no doubt that this period of time qualifies as a fulfillment of the prophecy that
"there will be earthquakes!"

Expert: Big Fault-Line Earthquake Would Nearly Destroy LA
Dec. 12, 2013 - Dr. Lucy Jones, a representative from the U.S. Geology Service, warns that Southern California, and particularly Los Angeles, is not ready
for the major impact of a high-magnitude earthquake along the San Andreas fault. If "the big one" hits, the area will not only suffer collapsed buildings and
freeways, but the supply of necessities like food, natural gas and water will be cut off for an extended period of time. A USGS study called "The ShakeOut Scenario,"
predicts that it would take at least six months to repair the water supply mains that would be destroyed. It would also nearly destroy communications with the outside
world. Fiber-optic cables to Los Angeles cross the San Andreas Fault. She said,
"So we expect at the time of the earthquake when the fault moves, we will break these fiber-optic cables and two-thirds of the data capacity between L.A. and everyone
else will disappear."
Jones said that a major earthquake on the San Andreas fault would affect about 10 million Californians.

Powerful quake strikes far south Atlantic
Nov. 18, 2013 -
A powerful 7.8 magnitude undersea earthquake struck in the Scotia Sea, a remote region in the far south Atlantic near Antarctica.
Since it was not near inhabited areas there is no report of damage. It did not generate a tsunami because the two tectonic plates are sliding past one another horizontally.
It is not a subduction zone, where one plate drops below the other.

Small tsunami reaches Japan after earthquake

Can oarfish predict earthquakes? Maybe it's not as crazy as it sounds
Oct. 22, 2013 - Two oarfish, one 18 feet long and another 14 feet long, were discovered on California beaches recently. There
is some evidence that deep-sea creatures and other animals exhibit unusual behavior before a large earthquake strikes.
Kiyoshi Wadatsumi, a specialist in ecological seismology, told the Japan Times, "Deep-sea fish living near the sea bottom are more sensitive
to the movements of active faults than those near the surface of the sea."

Epicenter: Israel hit by four earthquakes in four days. “An earthquake in Israel is more dangerous than war."
Oct. 21, 2013 -
“Officials from the IDF Home Front Command and the emergency services held a status meeting Sunday night to discuss the readiness of the
Israeli home front, following a fourth earthquake in northern Israel in just four days."
The meeting was attended by paramedic, firefighting and police services, and members of the Defense, Health and Education ministries. Some of the
issues that were discussed were:
- Most buildings in the earthquake area were built before 1990 and are not properly reinforced.
- An earthquake emergency could require a great deal of assistance from around the world.
- A former chief of the Home Front Command has said, “An earthquake in Israel is more dangerous than war.”

Fracking 'linked to biggest Oklahoma earthquake'
Mar. 27, 2013 - According to a new study published by the Geological Society of America wastewater injection from hydraulic
fracturing was linked to a magnitude-5.7 earthquake that struck the US state of Oklahoma in 2011.
- But seismologist Austin Holland of the Oklahoma Geological Survey said while the study showed a potential link between the earthquake
and fracking, "it is still the opinion of those at the Oklahoma Geological Survey that these earthquakes could be naturally occurring".
