Preserving Marriage

There is a vital connection between the prophesied apostasy ("falling away") of the end times and the rise of homosexuality, which is one of the chief symptoms of a society that has departed from the teaching of God's Word (see Scripture references below).

It is our desire to show love and compassion while being honest about what the Bible says regarding this topic.

Some activist judges have taken upon themselves to "grant equality" to homosexual partnerships even when there is clear legislation that defines a marriage as the union of a man and a woman, as in California. Recent debates, even among legislators who want to preserve the historical and traditional concept of marriage, have tended to agree that this is a states right issue. An earlier attempt to amend the federal Constitution has lost momentum while some thirty states have adopted their own constitutional amendments with exact definitions of what marriage is.

There are some states where same-sex marriages are allowed. Congress did pass the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which allows states not to recognize such marriages performed in other states. However, there is an ongoing battle by those who want same-sex marriages to challenge the constitutionality of state amendments and the federal DOMA act.

In 2008 Californians approved an initiative (Prop. 8) to change the state's constitution to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. An appleals court has said it is unconstitutional, and it is expected that the debate will go all the way to the Supreme court

Pro-Marriage Advocate Finds Hope as Gay Marriage Debate Moves Toward Supreme Court

June 9, 2012 - Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, said that the Ninth Circuit Court's decision was not surprising since their decisions are the most-overturned in the nation. But he added,
What is sort of a surprise is how strong the dissent was. [The three dissenting judges] basically say that the interpretation of the law put forward by the majority is completely outside the bounds of the clear legal history.
He said that the 9th Circuit is basically saying, once the court makes a decision the people can never overturn it. He doubts that the Supreme Court will accept their interpretation.

California's Gay Marriage Case Likely Headed to Supreme Court

June 5, 2012 - California has had a long struggle with the legality of same-sex marriages.
- A law passed by California voters in 2000 defined marriage as the union between one man and one woman.
- In 2008 the state supreme court ruled that that law violated the state constitution's gender and sexual orientation protections.
- Later in 2008 the Proposition 8 initiative amended the state constitution, adding, "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."
- This year a panel of three judges from the Ninth Circuit ruled that California's ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional.
- Proponents of Proposition 8 then asked for a larger review by 11 of the 25 members of the circuit court.
- Today the Ninth Circuit Court refused to review the case.
The circuit court gave 90 days for an appeal to be filed with the U.S. Supreme Court.
