Creation and The Genesis Flood

CREATION: According to Romans 1, denial of the evidence of Creation leads to depravity. Perhaps the new affirmations of Creation are a sign of Revival.

THE FLOOD: The Bible says the last days will be like it was in the days of Noah. Wouldn't it be wonderful of the Lord to give the last generation powerful reminders that the flood actually happened?

RonGraff.jpg - 6668 Bytes Nobel Prizes Showcase the Wonders of Creation

I noticed something fascinating about the current spate of Nobel Prize winners. Their achievements give witness to the greatness of our Creator God!

Let me give a little background here. Knowledgeable Christians take the Bible literally, and believe the account of God's creation in the first two chapters of Genesis. They also value true science and rejoice whenever more truth is discovered by brilliant and diligent scientists.

For the past century and a half, the theory of evolution has been taught almost exclusively in our public educational systems. This has led to confusion, and in many cases, rejection of Biblical values by students.

The good news is - the more advanced science gets in our generation, the more credence its findings give to belief in Creation. Charles Darwin and his followers did not expect this to happen. In fact, he wrote in his book, On the Origen of Species,

"If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down." - Charles Darwin
Irreducible Complexity: The Challenge to the Darwinian Evolutionary Explanations of many Biochemical Structures

Darwin thought that the cell was utterly simple. He had no idea about the immensely complex structure of the cell, with its unfathomable DNA " computer program" in every nucleus, or the amazing microscopic "machines" that do all the work in its tiny factory. It is too bad that Darwin couldn't be here now to be amazed at the things Nobel Prize laureates have discovered since his dark age.

Here are just three of the hundreds of articles about the current prize-winners and their work:

Computer chemists win Nobel prize

This article features three scientists who put the latest and greatest computers to work in order to solve the incredibly complex nature of proteins and other biological structures.

I remember reading about IBM's "Blue Gene" supercomputer in 2000. It would be devoted to the study of one of the 40,000 proteins in the human body.

IBM computer to speed genetic studies

June 3, 2000 - During the next five years, IBM plans to build its "Blue Gene" computer which will be 500 times faster than any computer in use today. It will be devoted to the gigantic task of modeling proteins in the study of the genetic code.

Yet Blue Gene, 40 times faster than the combined speed of the 40 fastest computers in the world today, will run an entire year to produce an answer for one protein. That will be one down, 39,999 to go. Or thereabouts.

Here are some other articles about the Nobel Prizes:

Higgs boson scientists win Nobel prize in physics

Thanks to these brilliant minds and the amazing new Large Hadron Collider in Europe, they have "captured" and identified the previously theoretical "Higgs boson" particle. A current article in Forbes Magazine explains that this illusive and invisible force causes the matter in the Universe to have substance, or mass. Because of its powerful unseen influence it has been given the popular name, "The God Particle."

I can't pretend to really understand such advanced knowledge in a specialized field, but it all points to a universe that is incredibly bigger and more complex than anything that could ever have happened by accident. All of this gives great credence to the more faith-oriented disciplines of Intelligent Design.

Cellular 'shipping' wins Nobel Prize

The Nobel Prize for medicine or physiology was awarded to three scientists who discovered how cells precisely transport material. They identified "vesicles" that act like a fleet of ships transporting their goods to destinations.

"The billions of cells which make up the body are not empty blobs, instead they are packed with precise machinery. In order for a cell to function properly it needs the right materials in the right place at the right time."

Another thing I noticed was how many of the Nobel Prize winners are Jewish and/or Israelis. When I checked this out, I found an article in the Jewish Chronicle that declared this was A remarkable week for Jewish Nobel Prize winners. It explained that six Jewish scientists won awards and two others came very close. It went on to say:

An estimated 190 Jewish or half-Jewish people have received Nobel Prizes since they were first handed out in 1901.

Jews have won more than 20 per cent of the 850-plus prizes awarded, despite making up just 0.2 per cent of world's population.

I just want to say to all of these amazing Nobel laureates, "Thank you for your intellects and devotion to your work. And thank you for strengthening our faith in the God of Creation and His Word!"

Evidence Noah's Biblical Flood Happened, Says Robert Ballard

Dec. 11, 2012 - Robart Ballard, the famed discoverer of the sunken Titanic, recently turned his attention to the story of Noah's Ark. In the Black Sea off the coast of Turkey. He used even more advanced robotic technology to explore an ancient shoreline some four hundred feet below the water.
By carbon dating shells found along the shoreline, Ballard said he believes they have established a timeline for that catastrophic event, which he estimates happened around 5,000 BC. Some experts believe this was around the time when Noah's flood could have occurred.

Noah's Ark: Dutchman launches scale replica of Biblical ship

Dec. 10, 2012 - A full-scale replica of Noah's Ark is now open to the public in the Netherlands. The project is the culmination of a 20-year dream by Johan Huibers.
The ark comes in at a whopping 130 metres (427 feet) long, 29 metres (95 feet) across and 23 metres (75 feet) high. It features life-sized displays of animals - including posed sculptures of tigers, giraffe, an elephant and bison

'Junk DNA' has a purpose, new map of human genome reveals

Sept. 7, 2012 - Only 2 percent of the human genome consists of genes. The other 98 percent was once thought to be "Junk DNA," fragments of the string that were previously thought to have no useful function. However, a new Encyclopedia of DNA Elements, or ENCODE project, has shown that this data is also involved in key biochemical processes.
The results of their efforts, published Wednesday in a series of papers in the journals Nature, Genome Research and Genome Biology, are being widely seen as the most significant contribution to understanding the human genome since the last sequence was completed in 2003.
Hundreds of scientists, working at at dozens of institutions in the U.S., U.K., Japan, Singapore and Spain were involved in the project. They have found that about 80 per cent of the human genome has at least one biochemical activity associated with it. One major function is to tell the genes when and where in the body they should turn on and off.

A Tale of Two Scientists: What Really Happened 'In the Beginning'

July 6, 2012 - Two evangelical scientists, one a young-earth creationist, the other an evolutionary creationist, illustrate the latest debate about the theories of creation and evolution.

Darrell Falk was brought up in the Nazarene Church and accepted Christ when he was 4 years old. He considered Jesus his best friend, but starting with his junior high school textbooks showing evolutionary charts, he gradually drifted away from his biblical roots and was enamoured with the beauty and complexity of biology.

He and his wife attended a church that attracted young people in rebellion against their fundamentalist backgrounds. "Evolution was a side issue. They were questioning everything. Eventually there wasn't much left of the classical Christianity of my youth."
When his children were young he was drawn back into the Nazarene church, and eventually became a professor at their Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. His teaching was opoposed at one point by Dr. James Dobson, a graduate of the university, who accused him of destroying the faith of his students. Feedback from the students convinced the administration that this was an over-reaction.

Falk was influenced greatly by another Christian evolutionist, Francis Collins, the world-famous geneticist who headed the human genome project, and wrote the bestselling book, The Language of God. Collins founded BioLogos, an organization that espouses teaches "evolutionary creationism." Falk now serves as president of BioLogos.

The other scientist, Todd Wood, came from a Baptist background. He graduated at the top of his high-school class and went on to Liberty University in Virginia. He ready many books on creationism and became an expert in the field. He adopted the young-earth creation science theory espoused by John Whitcomb and Henry Morris in their 1961 book, The Genesis Flood.

Eventually Wood and a small group of biology grad students started work on "baraminology," an effort to identify the "created kinds" of Genesis 1. He has been heavily involved in the growing Internet phenomenon of creation science sites and discussion forums. He ia a professor at Bryan University.

Both men agree that there needs to be love and respect for the competing viewpoints of creation.

Does science prove Noah's flood?

June 4, 2012 - Walt Brown, director of the Center for Scientific Creation in Phoenix, holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Mechanical Engineering. He is also a West Point graduate was chief of Science and Technology Studies at the Air War College.
In the Eighth edition of his book “In the Beginning: Compelling Evidence for Creation and the Flood,” Brown presents his hydroplate theory, which unfolds scientific evidence that the earth’s present geologic features and fossils were formed around 5,000 years ago.
Brown believes that Genesis 7 is the mechanism that created the geologic, astronomical and biological phenomena witnesseed today.

Scientist: Evolution debate will soon be history

May 27, 2012 - Paleoanthropologist Richard Leakey predicts that in another 15 to 30 years skepticism over evolution will be history.

Leakey is a professor at Stony Brook University on Long Island, but spends most of his time at the Turkana Basin Institute in Kenya where he welcomes researchers and scientists from around the world.

Now 67, Leakey is the son of the late Louis and Mary Leakey and conducts research with his wife, Meave, and daughter, Louise. The family claims to have unearthed "much of the existing fossil evidence for human evolution."

Evangelical Evolutionists Meet in New York

Mar. 31, 2012 - Biologos, founded by Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Project, and author of the book The Language of God, convened a group of pastors and scientists to consider the scientific evidence for evolution. Forty-one pastors and parachurch leaders participated. They were not pleased with the news from the Barna Research group on what U.S. Protestant pastors believe about creation.
More than half profess a 6-day, 24-hour creation of life. Fewer than one in five, on the other hand, follow Biologos in affirming an evolutionary process as God's method of creation.
Some of the evangelicals who do evidently agree with Biologos are N. T. Wright, Alister McGrath, John Ortberg, Tim Keller, Scot McKnight, Os Guinness, Joel Hunter, and Andy Crouch.
