Preserving Marriage

Some activist judges have taken upon themselves to "grant equality" to homosexual partnerships even when there is clear legislation that defines a marriage as the union of a man and a woman, as in California. Recent debates, even among legislators who want to preserve the historical and traditional concept of marriage, have tended to agree that this is a states right issue. An earlier attempt to amend the federal Constitution has lost momentum while nearly forty states, including California, have adopted their own constitutional amendments with exact definitions of what marriage is.

There are some states where same-sex marriages are allowed. Congress did pass the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which allows states not to recognize such marriages performed in other states. However, there is an ongoing battle by those who want same-sex marriages to challenge the constitutionality of state amendments and the federal DOMA act.

In 2008 Californians approved an initiative (Prop. 8) to change the state's constitution to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Legal challenges have been filed, and it is expected that the debate will go all the way to the Supreme court

There is a vital connection between the prophecied apostasy ("falling away") of the end times and the rise of homosexuality, which is one of the chief symptoms of a society that has departed from the teaching of God's Word.
It is our desire to show love and compassion while being honest about what the Bible says regarding this topic.

Obama admin. will no longer defend marriage law

Feb. 23, 2011 - In spite of President Obama's oath of office to defend the Constitution, and the implication that this has always carried that the Justice Department has the responsibility to defend the properly enacted laws, he has decided not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) by abandoning it in the courts.

The law defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman. Thirty states also have constitutional amendments or laws to the same effect. According to Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel,

"They want to simply conspire with the radical homosexual agenda to overturn and literally allow this law to go into expiration," Staver explains. "I can tell you, the American people see through this radicalism, the American people will not tolerate this..."

Court Halts Calif. Gay Marriages Pending Appeal

Aug. 17, 2010 - A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has put same-sex weddings in California on hold indefinitely Monday while it considers the constitutionality of the state's gay marriage ban.
In its two-page order granting the stay, the 9th Circuit agreed to expedite its consideration of the Proposition 8 case. The court plans to hear the case during the week of Dec. 6 after moving up deadlines for both sides to file their written arguments by Nov. 1.

Appeals Court Asked to Block Start of Gay Weddings

Aug. 13, 2010 - Following Judge Vaughn Walker's decision that California's Prop. 8 was unconstitutional, sponsors of the gay marriage ban have asked the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to halt gay marriages while the court considers the judge's ruling.

County plunges into California marriage battle

Aug. 10, 2010 - Officials in Imperial County, California, don't think it is right for one judge to dismiss the votes of 70% of its residents in the Prop. 8 case, therefore they have filed an appeal with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
[Judge] Walker's ruling ignored a warning from a state Supreme Court justice that establishing same-sex "marriages" creates a slippery slope leading to approval of polygamy and incest.

Activist: Judge's 'sexual proclivity' compromised Prop. 8 ruling

Aug. 6, 2010 - Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker overturned the voter-approved ban known as Proposition 8 Wednesday. He ignored the fact that the US Constitution does not address marriage, so it is a states-rights issue. In California, the state constitution now defines marriage as between one man and one woman. But Judge Walker said that limiting marriage to a man and a woman serves no legitimate purpose and is an "artifact" rooted in "unfounded stereotypes and prejudices."

Bryan Fischer, director of issue analysis for the American Family Association, thinks the decision is so wrong that members of Congress should immediately launch impeachment proceedings against Walker.

In a press release yesterday, AFA identifies Walker as a "practicing homosexual" who, for that reason, should have recused himself from this case "because his judgment is clearly compromised by his own sexual proclivity."

Newt Gingrich: Gay Marriage Ruling 'Outrageous'

Aug. 5, 2010 - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich reacted to the news that California's Prop. 8 has been overturned by activist judge Vaughn Walker. He complained that the ruling shows "an outrageous disrespect for our Constitution and for the majority of people of the United States who believe marriage is the union of husband and wife."
In every state of the union from California to Maine to Georgia, where the people have had a chance to vote they've affirmed that marriage is the union of one man and one woman.
Gingrich called on Congress to act immediately to reaffirm marriage as a union of one man and one woman as our national policy. He also warned the Senate not to approve Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court because she will be another judge who oppose the will of the American people.

Prop 8 ruling drives strong religious reactions: Outrage to joy

Aug. 4, 2010 - Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker handed down a ruling today that Prop. 8, the California initiative from 2008 that defined marriage as a union of one man and one woman, is not valid. The decision brought extreme reactions from people on both sides of the issue.
In July a federal judge in Massachusetts ruled in July that the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage as one man and one woman, is unconstitutional, setting hair on fire for activists on all sides.
The decision will undoubtedly be appealed to the Supreme Court.
