The actual "Mark" is Antichrist's NAME or NUMBER, not ours.
It is "worn" as a symbol of worship on the right hand or on the forehead. However, national or international ID numbers are also significant because at the time the Mark is instituted, Antichrist will control all buying and selling, which obviously requires personal identification for all people.

Dec. 14, 2009 - A federal law passed in 2005 required states motor vehicle bureaus to obtain and store personal information like Social Security cards and birth certificates for a national database.
The deadline was Dec. 31 for the states to create what would be the largest identification database of its kind under the auspices of the Real ID program. The law also mandates uniform anti-counterfeiting standards for state driver’s licenses.
Most states oppose the law and have refused to comply. The Department of Homeland Security will extend, for at least a year, the deadline of the Real ID program.

June 24, 2009 - the Universal Product Code (UPC) or bar code is about to give way to the Electronic Product Code or EPC. Technology and the Coming Mark of the Beast
It seems that everyone knows that the Bible says there will be an Antichrist in the last days, and that he will require people to have the “Mark of the Beast.” Of course, most people don’t take it seriously, but at least they know that the prophecy exists...
There are three things that will be necessary for this registration to take place. First, each person will need to have his own identification code... Read full article

Feb. 10, 2009 - An alarming provision of the Stimulus Bill is the creation of a National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, that will assign an electronic ID to every person and maintain their health records.
The goal is to reduce costs and “guide” your doctor’s decisions (442, 446). These provisions in the stimulus bill are virtually identical to what Daschle prescribed in his 2008 book, “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis.”
Jan 30, 2009 - Lindsey says that the dire global financial situation could result in changes that will prepare the way for Antichrist's economic dictatorship. Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum in Davos, is one of the many voices that are calling for the emergence of a global economic system. According to Schwab, the current situation is a "transformational crisis" useful in reshaping a "new world."
Lindsey reminds us that the last time this sort of thing happened was the Great Depression. And the Depression gave opportunity to the American president to push through whatever socialist legislation he deemed necessary.
Even worse, the Depression gave rise to Hitler's dictatorship.
After more than a decade of economic depression, as long as Hitler's policies were keeping factories busy and the economy humming along, he was free to do whatever else he pleased.
Lindsey thinks the next step will be the elimination of cash as a medium of exchange. Banks have wanted this change for years. Electronic money will be presented as the solution to some of our pressing problems: the drug trade, petty crimes, and the cost of printing paper money. People will resist the move, but if the situation is desparate enough, they will conform.
Jan. 29, 2009 - Columnist Phil Elmor laments that credit cards are preferred to cash in many transactions, and every electronic purchase, even in our grocery stores, accumulates an electronic trail of our preferences.
The threats of increased tracking (and therefore control) over your consumer behavior, coupled with the increased security risks of electronic commerce, make using cash more attractive an option than ever before.
But our society is making it more difficult to use cash.
