June 24, 2009 - Nikolai Makarov, Russia's Chief of the General Staff, warns that Russia's military is aging and unmotivated. It is on the verge of a "catastrophic crisis" and if forced into action would be much more likely to use strategic nuclear weapons.

Iranian Police Attack Hundreds of Opposition Protesters

Russia assembling rival to NATO
June 5, 2009 - The "National Security Strategy of Russian Federation to 2020" was just approved by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. The plan envisions a military coalition that it hopes will rival NATO, according to a report in Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.
- A new Russian security strategy includes an intense rivalry with Washington, the possible use of military force as the nation competes for energy resources in the Middle East, Barents Sea, the Arctic, Caspian Sea and Central Asia.
Russia is concerned about NATO's eastward migration into regions such as the Caucasus and Central Asia. They will try to develop a collective security arrangement with post-Soviet countries.

Sirens sound across Israel in state's largest civilian drill
June 2, 2009 - Israelis have already been asked to prepare a shelter or safe room for use in case of missile attacks. Today a national test of 23,000 air raid sirens will be conducted.
- The exercise is meant to raise the public's preparedness for possible missile attacks on the country. The drill, named Turning Point 3, is being run by the Home Front Command and the National Emergency Authority. It is the largest ever emergency exercise the nation has undertaken.
Everyone will go into their secure rooms for 10 minutes.

Iran sends six warships to international waters
May 25, 2009 - As a show of strenght, Iranian Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced that Iran has sent six warships to international waters, including the Gulf of Aden.
- Iranian waters stretch along the Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman. Iran has threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 40 percent of the world's traded oil is shipped, if it were attacked over its nuclear programme.

French report: Israel may be prepping for Iran strike
May 4, 2009 - According to the French l'Express magazine,
- Israeli army planes recently performed in-flight refueling exercises between the Hebrew state and Gibraltar.

Military clash with Iran

Study: Israel may attack Iran nuclear sites with ballistic missiles
Mar. 18, 2009 - A new report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington D.C., called "Study on a Possible Israeli Strike on Iran's Nuclear Development Facilities," says that Israel may use their Jericho III ballistic missiles to attack Iran's nuclear facilities. They calculate that 42 of these missiles could "severely damage or demolish" Iran's core nuclear sites at Natanz, Esfahan and Arak. Use of missiles instead of aircraft would solve some of the biggest obstacles: limits on fuel and ordnance, and perils to pilots. Jericho missiles are accurate within a range of a few dozen yards, and can carry 1,650 lbs. of conventional warheads.

Iran test runs 1st nuclear power plant

Yesterday Iran successfully launched a satellite, using their Safir-2 rocket. The Omid (Hope) satellite is actually their second one in orbit. Russia launched their first one, Sinah-1, in 2005.

Report: Iran's uranium supply could run out within months
Jan. 24, 2009 - A diplomatic campaign by United States, Great Britain, France and Germany to limit Iran's purchases of yellow cake uranium seems to be working.
- According to the report, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office sent out a confidential request to its diplomats in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Brazil, all major uranium producers, requesting that they lobby governments not to sell uranium to Iran.
