Is the World Ready for a “Benevolent Dictator”?

The world is a mess! Look at today’s headlines. Between the fear of another economic collapse and a startling surge of wars and rumors of wars, none of our world leaders seem to have the right answers.

President Obama has a 63% no-confidence vote from Americans according to the latest Washington Post poll.

Forbes recently named Russia’s Vladimir Putin, “the world’s most powerful person,” but he may not be able to stop Islamists from perpetrating terror attacks during the upcoming Olympics.

Ukraine is experiencing a massive revolution against the dictatorial powers of their government, which wants to side with Russia instead of Europe.

Peace talks are going nowhere in Syria, where more than 100,000 have already died in their civil war.

An intensive effort by U.S. Secretary of State to achieve peace between Israel and the Palestinians appears to be doomed to failure.

Iran could produce nuclear weapons in a very short time in spite of negotiations with leading world powers to slow their pace. This poses an existential threat to Israel and other nations in the Middle East.

Even in Africa several countries are in chaos because of terrorism. More than 2,000 people have died in violence in the Central African Republic caused by a Muslim take-over of the majority-Christian country.

Continuing violence in Egypt three years after their Arab Spring,  and the recent overthrow of the rule by the Muslim Brotherhood,  has prompted the temporary leaders there to hold early elections for a new President.

There’s more, but this is enough to make our point.

At the end of the Church Age, and the beginning of the Tribulation Period, the Book of Revelation describes the grand entrance of the rider on a white horse.

Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals;and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.” And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. – Revelation 6:1-2

As explained later in Revelation 13, this ruler will be the Beast (or Antichrist); the evil world dictator of the end times. He won’t appear as an evil person, but as a wise savior for the world when it is in turmoil. Many times in world history a “benevolent dictator” has come to power, promising to end wars and bring prosperity. Perhaps the world is about ready for him to make his debut.
