A Taste of Revival

Yesterday’s visit to Chick-fil-A was a great experience for us, as it obviously was for hundreds of thousands of other Americans. Sure, the food was good, but the real treat was the taste of Christian unity and excitement in the crowd.

Our son Tim waited nearly an hour to place his order, and another hour to get his food, but he said the time went fast and he enjoyed the experience of being around so many energized Christians and patriots.

It reminded me of the early days of the “Jesus People” movement in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s. It started with Chuck Smith and a small church called “Calvary Chapel.” It welcomed the young people who had not heard much about Jesus, spawned contemporary Christian music, the “one-way” sign, and Christian bumper stickers. I remember thinking that it looked like the beginning of a revival, but it seemed too good to be true.

It did turn out to be a great revival and the origin of the amazing Calvary Chapel network of back-to-the-Bible teaching that has had a profound impact on our generation.

During the past couple of decades I have wanted to see another great revival. These surely are the end-times predicted by the Bible. It just makes sense that our great God, who is “not willing that any should perish” ( 2 Peter 3:9 ), would send another opportunity for our own younger generation, most of whom have not been taught the truth about Jesus.

I know that we cannot plan or schedule a revival. But we surely can pray that the Lord will, in His mercy, send us another great outpouring of His spirit in these days!

28 “And it shall come to pass afterward
That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your old men shall dream dreams,
Your young men shall see visions.
29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.
30 “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth:
Blood and fire and pillars of smoke.
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
And the moon into blood,
Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.
32 And it shall come to pass
That whoever calls on the name of the LORD
Shall be saved.
For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance,
As the LORD has said,
Among the remnant whom the LORD calls.
– Joel 2:28-32 (NKJV)

Ron: A case can be made that the modern day equivalent of the hippies are the LGBT community. They are the ones cast out from churches today, just as the hippies were of the 1960s and early 70s. Most folks who went to chick fil a yesterday were wealthy, upper middle class white people, the very people who were excluding the hippies from their churches back when pastor Chuck welcomed them in.

  2. It was a great day to stand up for truth. I loved how everyone waiting for their opportunity to support Chick-fil-A were patient, kind, and determined in this cause. Quite a contrast the “occupiers.”

My diet restrictions kept me from eating at Chick-Fil-A, so I grilled my own chicken and thanked the Lord for those willing to stand for what is right. 🙂 Bring on a revival!
