UFOs and Prophecy

It’s a big week in the entertainment world for Unidentified Flying Objects. The first episode of ABC’s “V” was shown, updating the alien-invasion series of the ‘80s. Later this week a new movie, “The Fourth Kind,” will focus on the most intense fear about UFOs – abduction.

During the past half-century there have been thousands of supposed sightings of UFO’s and rumors of secret information hidden from the public by the government. There have even been claims of alien abductions. Amazingly, polls indicate that about 1/3 of Americans believe in UFOs, although some of them substitute belief in aliens for belief in God.

The History Channel produced a series called “UFO Hunters.” Numerous other documentaries explore related topics like the Air Force’s “Project Blue Book,” which is now available online, and the mysterious unofficial military base known as “Area 51.”

Could this interest in UFOs relate to Biblical prophecy? One possible connection would be an explanation of the sudden disappearance of Christians at the Rapture. For millions of people the loss of friends and loved ones will be a final proof that The Bible is true. For them, the Rapture will be a turning point leading them to personal acceptance of Christ.

But for the rest of the world, some false theory will have to be proposed to keep them from turning to the Lord. In 2 Thessalonians 2 we discover some of the details of the coming of Antichrist.

9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, 10 and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.
2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 – NIV

It is certainly possible that Antichrist’s lie about the Rapture will be that, after all these years of being observed by powerful but kindly aliens, Christians have been taken away from earth by aliens because they were not willing to be “tolerant” of people with different morals or beliefs.

  7. I think it’s both strange (co-mingling a “religious” worldview with sci-fi or, worse, the occult) and worrisome (think of all the people to be deceived) that the Catholic Church has now decided to add a commission to “investigate” extraterrestrial life. Fox News reported on it (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,573806,00.html).

    Amazing days!

God bless you, Ron,and all those working to keep the believer’s eye on The Truth.

Wow, that’s great! It’s wonderful that someone made this amazing blog. Please check this another wonderful site that defined “the prophet” for the modern era. This has made his journey unique: a journey that has taken his inspired message to schools and colleges, churches and synagogues, alleyways and prison cells.

Hi – I don’t comment on many sites but had to on yours. It’s fantastic! I really like how you write – very to the point. Thanks for having this site. I don’t have time to read everything right now, I found this site when looking for something else on beliefnet.com, but I’ve bookmarked your homepage and will check back soon to see the latest news. I always enjoy reading on the internet about religion. Do you suggest any particular biblical study guides? I’m looking for one to start reading, I just finished one and need a new one to read. I have a blog with daily Bible readings on it. Please bookmark it – it as at http://www.GotTB.com. I just redesigned the site with a new look and feel, please let me know what you think of the new layout. Do you have a favorite Bible passage or story? I would not even know where to being the processing of picking just one. God’s Peace!

Hi! I’ve always thought this as well! What better way to explain the disappearance of so many people? And how convenient so many “sci-fi/alien” movies and shows are becoming more prevalent. I can just see it now:
“The aliens took those trouble making/warmongering/hate-filled CHRISTIANS out of the way so we peace-loving people can get on with our lives. Peace and safety. Peace and safety…”

Oh how I pray for them! Thank you for this article! God bless you!

Wow! This Blog is great. Just like Kim Clement. Kim Clement is an expression that has defined “the prophet” for the modern era. This has made his journey unique; a journey that has taken his inspired message to schools and colleges, churches and synagogues, alleyways and prison cells. Kim’s prophetic gift is a magnet that has drawn a broad audience, as he has whispered to kings and inspired prisoners, his path through life continues to be an exciting adventure.

Beware of all the Ghost shows that are flooding the cable channels about spirits and paranormal disembodied people from the dea. It’s all hogwash and we know who is behind these (as far as the ghosts) it’s satan and his minions…just another way to get peoples eyes off the ture savor Jesus Christ.

  27. Alice says:

I have several questions & I sincerely hope that I’ll get an answer. Is it not possible for God to be from another planet more advanced than ours since the universe is infinite? He could have created Adam& Eve via cloning? As for rapture,is it possible that Jesus comes in a UFO to pick us up before tribulation, not because aliens abducted us as will be explained by anti-christ in future?

  28. Alice says:

Oh yes, before I forget, why is black berry related to anti-christ?

  29. MIke says:

I’ve been studying the bible for about 30 years and when I first started I read that no one knows when JESUS will come back. I also read that when the treaty is singed with Israel it will be 2520 days later that JESUS comes back to earth. So who is the bible talking to. It has to be someone that wont be here when the treaty is singed. That’s when I first started learning about the rapture. Then I got to thinking why wont every body believe in the bible when all these people disappear, the world has to come up with a reason and for over 20 years now the only scenario I can come up with for most of the people not to believe is aliens have taken all the people who believe off the earth. satan has to come up with some counterfeit reason that people just disappear and that’s the only one I can come up with. If any body can think a different reason please list it. ………might want to read Gen 6

  30. Shah S M says:

What you penned seems to be the STANDARD CHRISTIAN take on UFOs & Aliens, i.e. fear and evil. However, like Chuck Missler, why don’t you see the link between this phenomena with the Biblical reference to ‘SONS OF GOD’ tryst with ‘DAUGHTERS OF MAN’, resulting in the forbidden hybrid bloodline of the NEPHILIM, which was once wiped out through the GREAT FLOOD, but continued a second wave quite successfully ; IS PRESENT in our times too. Though couched in archaic language, you cannot deny the PRESENCE OF ETs in our human history [the BIBLE is a good source] and the conflict between them and ‘the chosen of God’.
While I agree with your view, which is true, I am saddened by the ‘propaganda-like FEAR MESSAGE’ most Christian preachers & scholars preach on this matter.
