Is there really a God? If so, is He a good God? Does He care for me? How does He want me to respond to Him?
The resurrection of Jesus answers these basic questions.
Jesus predicted His death and resurrection, and He said
A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” Because I live, you too shall live. – John 14:19-21
The Apostle Paul explained:
For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. 6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. – 1 Corinthians 15:3-6
Jesus paid the debt of our sins, and offers forgiveness and eternal life to all who truly believe. The New Testament makes it clear that we must personally accept this gift of eternal life.
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: – John 1:12
No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. – John 3:13-18
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. – John 14:6
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. – Acts 4”12
The result of personally receiving Christ—acknowledging our belief in Him—is the gift of eternal life.
And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. – 1 John 5:11-13
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. – Galatians 2:20
