Randy Thomasson: Four justices overstepped, should have let voters decide marriage issue

June 18, 2008 - The four justices of California's Supreme Court who decided to overturn the people's initiative and allow homosexual marriage violated the U.S. and California Constitutions, which clearly call for three branches of government and prohibits courts from making law. Consider the following two sections of the California Constitution:
"The powers of state government are legislative, executive and judicial. Persons charged with the exercise of one power may not exercise either of the others except as permitted by this constitution." (Article 3, Section 3).

"The legislative power of this State is vested in the California Legislature, which consists of the Senate and Assembly, but the people reserve to themselves the powers of initiative and referendum." (Article 4, Section 1).

Priest investigated for quoting Bible

June 5, 2008 - Father Alphonse de Valk, a Catholic priest, is being tried in Canada for "hate speech" because he quoted the Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Pope John Paul II's encyclicals, in opposition to same-sex marriage. Pete Vere, a canon lawyer and Catholic journalist raises this question...
"If one, because of one's sincerely held moral beliefs, whether it be Jew, Muslim, Christian, Catholic, opposes the idea of same-sex marriage in Canada, is that considered 'hate'?" he asked.
The United States is on the same path. There is a "hate crimes" plan before the U.S. Congress, which specifically targets criticism of alternative sexual lifestyles.

A New Mexico photographer was fined $6,600 for refusing to take pictures at a lesbian "wedding."

A California law already bans teaching anything but "positive" information about alternative sexual lifestyles, including homosexuality, in its public school.

"It's expected that certification for the ballot will occur in early June," said Randy Thomasson, head of Campaign for Children and Families. "The ruling should be stayed in deference to the people who have demanded the right to decide this issue on the ballot."

California Supreme Court Strikes Down Gay Marriage Ban

May 15, 2008 - A bare majority of justices on California's Supreme Court have ruled against the will of the people.
The court overturned a gay marriage ban that was based on a 1977 state law and a voter-approved initiative from 2000. Both limited marriage to unions between a man and a woman.
The ruling says that it is unconstitutional to ban gay marriage.

Conservatives are trying to put a measure on the November ballot that would outlaw same-sex marriage in the California constitution. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is opposed to changing the constitution and has said he will uphold the court's ruling.

Parents of 166,000 students could face criminal charges

Mar. 6, 2008 - Parents who are pulling their children out of California public schools because of state-mandated teaching about sexuality that is contrary to their Biblical beliefs may face criminal charges. The decision comes from the 2nd Appellate Court in Los Angeles. Justice H. Walt Croskey and two other judges ordered:
"Parents who fail to [comply with school enrollment laws] may be subject to a criminal complaint against them, found guilty of an infraction, and subject to imposition of fines or an order to complete a parent education and counseling program."
Pacific Justice Institute president, Brad Dacus, warns that the ruling not only attacks traditional homeschooling, but also homeschooling through charter schools.

California ripped as 'too queer for school'

Feb. 12, 2008 - The Campaign for Children and Families is urging Christian families to take their kids out of public schools. They can homeschool them or put them into a Christian school. The new campaign is called "Rescue Your Child."
And it's all because the California Legislature and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger worked together to establish Senate Bill 777 and Assembly Bill 394 as law, plans that institutionalize the promotion of homosexuality, bisexuality, transgenderism and other alternative lifestyle choices.
California state laws have progressively made homosexuality, bisexuality and transsexuality acceptable life-styles, and the new laws require the positive portrayal of these practices in California classrooms.
