Beirut bombing kills ex-ambassador to U.S.
Dec. 27, 2013 - Mohammed Chatah, a former Lebanese finance minister and ex-ambassador to the U.S. was killed in a powerful car bomb blast
in Beirut. Four others were killed and more than 70 were injured in the explosion. Chatah was a senior aide to former Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
Hariri, a Sunni politician, heads the main, Western-backed coalition in Lebanon, which is engaged in bitter feuding with the militant Shiite Hezbollah group,
a top ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Nov. 11, 2013 - The Syrian civil war has further divided regional powers. Shi'ite Iran is backing President Bashar al-Assad and Sunni Gulf Arab states and
Turkey is assisting the rebels. Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told reporters that this sectarian tension is "the most serious security threat not
only to the region but to the world at large."
Mr Zarif, a US-educated former Iranian ambassador to the United Nations, called for regional powers to come together to try to solve the conflict in Syria.

Oct. 11, 2013 - Ibrahim Sarsour, an Arab member of the Israeli Kenesset claims that the Biblical patriarchs were Islamic.
According to Sarsour, the Koran “proves without a doubt” that Abraham was a “Muslim” and that Isaac and Jacob were “hanifs” who “submitted”
to Allah. Hanif is an Islamic term for pre-Koranic figures who rejected idolatry in favor of monotheism.

Aug. 25, 2013 - Youssef Sidhom, editor of the Christian weekly newspaper called Watani (My Homeland), told the Voice of America
that the cause of the revolution there was that Islamist President Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood were imposing political Islam on
the nation against the will of the people.

Current TV Rejected Glenn Beck Before Selling to al-Jazeera
Jan. 3, 2013 - Former Vice President Al Gore's cable TV network has been purchased by Al-Jazeera, the pan-Arab brocaster. Before
the sale was made conservative commentator Glenn Beck had offered to buy the network but was rejected because of his ideology.
Gore confirmed the sale, which netted $500 million - $100 million of which he will receive personally. He said that Al-Jazeera shares
