The End/ New Beginning
The End of the World is NOT Near! Balanced Biblical teaching does indicate that there is a new age coming, during which Jesus Christ will reign. We do not set dates for future events! Fear and dread are not appropriate for those who know Christ. Nevertheless, there are many doomsday scenarios in the news, and some of them do have prophetic value. The balance here is to remember that the Bible predicts bad times ahead, but not the total destruction of life.

Iran and Saudis Acting Out Ancient Messiah Prophecy?
Nov. 19, 2011 - This secular news source finds it interesting that an ancient Jewish commentary known as
Yalkut Shimoni interpreted a passage from Isaiah to mean that tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia point to the
appearance of the Messiah.
Of course, Persia is Iran, and the Arab king could very well be Saudi Arabia.
- "Rabbi Yitzchak said: 'In the year in which the Messiah-King appears, all the nations of the world are
provoking each other. The King of Persia provokes an Arab king and the Arab king turns to Aram for advice.
And the King of Persia goes back and destroys the entire world. And all the nations of the world are in panic
and distress and they fall upon their faces and are seized with pains like those of a woman giving birth, and
Israel are in panic and distress and asking 'where shall we go?

Calif. Pastor: End of the World Is Near, Really
Mar. 15, 2011 - Greg Laurie, well-known evangelist and pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside,
California told his congregation that previous generations have said that they were living in the last days, but he
wonders whether the "cumulative effect" of prophecied events isn't cause to believe that Jesus might return in his
Laurie reminded them that we should not set dates, but if the convergence of these significant events signals that
the seven-year Tribulation Period that the Bible prophesizes, is close, "the return of Jesus Christ is even closer yet."
- He listed the dramatic escalation of global wars and terrorism, the push for unity or globalism, the change in
world economics toward a cashless society, the unprecedented increase of killer earthquakes, and false teaching
permeating the church.

Arrests of Hutaree renew interest in end of times, spur controversy
Apr. 11, 2010 - The arrests of militants who believe in an end-of-the-world scenario is a reminder that all three monotheistic religions believe such prophecies may be fulfilled soon. The Pew Research Center's Forum on Religion and Public Life reports that four out of five Christians believe that Jesus will return one day.
We're flocking to movies about the last days, even in the midst of a penny-pinching recession. Why?
Mar. 5, 2010 - A near-epidemic flow of end-of-the-world movies in 2009 is Hollywood's response to the distress of these difficult days and the need for hope. The writer of this article lists the many apocalyptic films released last year, and notes that there are more coming. He illustrates the psychology behind the trend by noting a scene near the end of The Road. A father and son stand on the edge of a sea after a long post-apocalyptic journey. The 10-year-old boy asks, "What's on the other side?" His weary dad says "Nothing." The boy counters with the thought that there must be something.
Looking back at the poverty of the Great Depression, with unemployment running as high as 25 percent, the article recalls the fact that approximately two-thirds of the population—went to the movies every week to help keep their hopes alive.
- Wanting to keep his son's hope alive, the man relents. "Maybe there's a father and his son, and they're sitting on the beach too."
At the end of the article the writer returns to the question, "What's on the other side?" He ends with this answer:
- Hollywood may not know that the answer has in fact been revealed, that a Father and his Son wait on the other shore.

Americans stock up to be ready for end of the world
Feb. 14, 2010 - A growing army of Americans are learning how to grow their own food, store emergency rations and find other ways of surviving in case of a disaster. They are part of a growing social movement that has been dubbed Survivalism Lite. They are also called "preppers".
There is also a network of preparedness websites. One example is called "Ready Nutrition". It teaches how to get by in a situation when pre-packaged goods at a supermarket might not be available.
- Preppers believe that it is better to be safe than sorry and that preparing for disaster – be it a hurricane or the end of civilization – makes sense.
